What is AvaDent? A Guide to Digital Dentures

AvaDent is a digital denture company in Scottsdale, Arizona. Since 2011 it has designed dentures on computer and milled them from a solid block of dense, cross-linked PMMA, so the teeth and base are one piece. Dentists and labs send records through the AvaDent Portal, approve the design on screen, and receive a finished denture that fits with few adjustments, often in 2–3 appointments.

How AvaDent digital dentures are made

  1. Send records. Conventional impressions, an existing denture or an intraoral scan, with an Rx through the AvaDent Portal.
  2. Approve the design. AvaDent's designers build the denture digitally and the clinician reviews and approves it on screen.
  3. Milled as one piece. The design is milled from a single industrially cured puck, so there are no bonded teeth.
  4. Deliver. The finished denture ships to the practice, ready to seat.

The full step-by-step guides for each case type are on the clinical workflows page, and sending your first case takes a few minutes.

Why one piece matters

Most conventional dentures are made by bonding separate teeth into an acrylic base. That bond line is where teeth pop off and where stains and bacteria collect. An AvaDent denture is monolithic: teeth and base are milled from the same block, so there is nothing to debond.

Monolithic dentures made from high-density cross-linked PMMA are up to eight times stronger than conventional acrylic dentures. Read more about what dentures are made of and how milled and printed dentures compare.

Bio-Hygienic by design

Because the PMMA is cured industrially under controlled conditions and tempered before milling, it is dense, porosity-free and nearly monomer-free, and it will not shrink after milling. The low-porosity surface resists stains and bacteria build-up. See AvaDent's Bio-Hygienic technology and why residual monomer matters.

AvaMax: titanium inside for full-arch cases

For patients with heavy biting forces or implant-supported cases, AvaMax adds a printed titanium core. The PMMA is molded over and through the titanium as one piece, so there is no bond line to delaminate and no teeth to pop off. AvaMax is available on fixed hybrids, LOCATOR FIXED cases and dentures.

AvaMax or zirconia for a full arch?

Zirconia is very strong, but it is also heavy and very hard. Many clinicians choose a titanium-reinforced PMMA prosthesis instead because it is lighter for the patient, kinder to the opposing teeth, quieter in function, and easy to repair or remake from the stored design. Our All-on-X implants guide and full-arch restoration tips cover how to choose.

A lasting digital record

Every AvaDent denture is saved as a digital design. If a patient loses or breaks a denture, a replacement can be made from the stored file without starting over.

Leadership and innovation

Tim Thompson started AvaDent with an idea many in the industry doubted: that dentures could be designed and manufactured digitally. Working with leading prosthodontists and a team of engineers, the company turned that idea into the monolithic digital denture, and has since earned 80 patents and patent applications across dentures, overdentures and hybrids.
